This is an excellent Highlands / El Alto Añejo that has been aged for 24 months in charred American white oak whiskey barrels. The nose is sweet and fruity which I’ve come to expect from agave forward Highland tequilas. The cooked agave is nice and buttery while the fruitiness has notes of dark stewed fruits. There are some light barrel tannins and spices coming from the oak barrel. There’s some faint minerality coming from their masonry horno and massive stone tahona. I taste the buttery cooked agave, natural agave sweetness, fruit and barrel notes all at once. It’s a well balanced Anejo that has many delicious notes. The alcohol gives a nice tingle and slightly spicy finish. Although there are many flavors the tequila still rests easy on the palate with a nice medium body.
